Patronage? Is that still a thing?

When I tell people I'm a composer, the follow-up question is usually something like, "But how do you make a living?"

The short answer is: "I don't know. But God keeps looking after me and my family."

The long answer is... well, I'm still figuring it out! But I've realised that, if I'm really meant to keep doing this composing thing, there may be other people out there who also believe in it enough that they'd like to support me. And one way to do that is financially – to become a "patron."

Patrons used to be few and far between – extremely wealthy individuals with money to spare. But there's a movement towards "crowdfunding" in today's world – seeking small amounts of support from lots of different people, instead of lots of support from just one or two individuals. Perhaps you've heard of Patreon, and think I should be using that platform. I may yet go down that path. But for now, I'm keeping things simple...

The form on this page provides a way for you to donate to "David John Lang: Composer." Essentially, any money received through here goes towards my living expenses, and frees me up to keep devoting time to composition. That's it. It's a way of you saying, "Yes, I think what David is doing as a composer is good and valuable. I'd like to support him to keep doing it."

Obviously you will only do this if you trust me! I would love to build that trust, so feel free to reach out and contact me if you'd like to chat.

I have no particular goal in mind here, I'm just opening up this option to see what happens...

Note: if you mark your donation as "anonymous", I will still see your name on my system (just me). I realise that this isn't ideal, and I'm in the process of working out an alternative so that you can be truly anonymous from me if you wish! I'll update this when I've succeeded...
