I'm here to announce that I've embarked on my biggest (and already most difficult) project yet. It's so big that I've made a separate website for it: Mark Illuminated. Please check it out! That will certainly be the more relevant website for what I'm currently working on, at least for the next few months... This project has been many years in the planning, but perhaps the biggest hurdle has been plucking up the courage to give it a go. It's a very different kind of composing to anything I've done before, and no one is commissioning it (yet!). Wed 9 October 2024 Last week I was in Sydney, where I got to hear the Sydney Symphony Fellows record my fanfare Give Thanks. This was the culmination of my part in the 50 Fanfares project, somewhat delayed due to COVID-19. I'm looking forward to sharing when the recording will be broadcast on ABC Classic... sometime in November, I believe... ![]() Tue 9 July 2024
It's finally finished! Elsabeth and I are very excited to be officially launching our first home-made album of piano music later this month: Portraits: Volume I (yes, I realise the title implies that we're going to go through all this again sometime in the future!). We are having an album launch "afternoon tea", cabaret-style, in the café of our church on Saturday 27th July – please come along to support us if you can. In the meantime, here are a few other recently-released recordings of my compositions that I've neglected to post up here before now...

The Portraits Album continues to progress towards completion. It's been taking me a lot longer than I wanted, because of all the other life things that have happened this year, but the end is in sight (almost all the music has now been recorded at least!). I'm very excited that the Adelaide Wind Orchestra – who I've been involved with for many years – are going to South Korea in July, to participate in the 20th International Conference of the World Association of Symphonic Bands & Ensembles. I wish I could go myself, but I'll have to be content with sending some of my music there in my stead. AWO will be playing my portrait piece Stephen as part of their program over there, giving it an international audience. Another project currently in the works is a setting of the Communion Service (or 'Mass', but in English) for the choir of Christ Church North Adelaide. This is a text that I've been wanting to set to music for many years, and now I have an opportunity to do it. I'm writing it specifically for church use, so it will be an offering of shared worship to God! Tue 23 January 2024 I'm in the middle of recording an album of my piano music, Portraits. Many of these pieces have been performed before, but this time they will all be brought together into a single album, to be made available online. News Archive
